static image

In English with ms mclaren,we have been creating static images based around the book by the name of "abomination". These static images have to have a quote from the book. As well as the static image,we had to write a commentary about it. Heres my commentary:

Static Image Commentary My static image portrays the idea that:Martha Dewhurst is different from everybody else, she belongs to a religion, the righteous, therefore, she finds that connecting with others is against the rules of the righteous. I have shown this by:Using the caption that shows Martha telling scott,Somebody who doesn’t believe in the righteous, but soon befriends Martha, that connecting with outsiders is a bad idea,as her secret, the fact that there is a little boy stuck in a cage, could be released. The visual elements I have used include:An open book, representing Martha’s story about her life and the problems she faced throughout it.Inside the open book is a silhouette of a girl holding a bible on one side, representing martha and her strong belief in the righteous,A religious group that strongly believes in christianity, hence she is holding a bible. On the other side is a silhouette of a boy, representing scott,a boy who bullied martha, until realising it was wrong,so he started sticking up for her, causing him to be bullied to. Scott then tries to befriend martha, despide her doubts and warnings. I have used the colour (s)black, white, red and pink,as they represent the black bible and people represent Scott,as he is not apart of the righteous, was full of “darkness”,and his communication with martha was containing her in this darkness, causing her to do things that are not apart of the rules of the righteous. The red text represents her fear that the secret would be released if she befriended scott, which which would cause hell to spread through her family. The white background represents the purity martha and her family have, through their connection and believes with the righteous. The pink outermost background represents the love that martha starts feeling for scott. The quotation I have chosen are relevant because It expresses Martha's concern she has for scott and his constant connecting with Martha,as she fears that her parents and the righteous will find out.

I enjoyed writing the abomination commentary, and I hope to write another one of these soon. I am going to end this post with a photo of my static image:

curiosity topic #3

I wonder...

I wonder why people were so afraid of plague doctors during times of plague?

Plague doctors, nightmarish bird men with wings of black and beaked faces of white, they roamed the streets during times of plague, going to people's homes and trying to cure them of plague and disease, but why were people so afraid of them if they were to cure, not kill? Well, firstly, lets look at their outfit, what they wore when they roamed the plague infested streets. Plague doctors typically wore large, black, baggy robes they covered their entire body, arms and legs, they also wore gloves, boots, and a hit,all of which were black. They also wore probably the most well known feature of them, the mask, the white, beaked mask that covered their entire face. They also carried a cane with them,so they wouldn't have the risk of getting plague themselves. Plague doctors are well known, and are mainly recognisable because of those masks. How does their outfit have to do with why they are feared? Well, the outfit usually brought fear to those the plague doctors went to visit, they thought of the doctors as creepy, and frightening, like a living nightmare. But that's not all as to why they are feared, what they are known for was also frightening. They were known as being death bringers, carriers of plague, some even call them 'son of the reaper himself', They were mainly hired to count the number of dead and not actually cure plague, however. Now,how do i feel about plague doctors,am i scared of them? I have to say,i'm not scared of them,i actually really like plague doctors, they interest me,and i really like learning about them and researching them. I find plague doctors to be mysterious men who just want to rid the world of plague, and i just typically like them. Now,the big question, why were people so afraid of plague doctors during times of plague? Plague doctors were feared during times of plague because of what they looked like, and what they were known for. People feared them because they were known as death-bringers,and nightmarish bird men, believe it or not, people still fear them today, people today still find them to be creepy, but not many fear them now. This was my curiosity topic for this week, why people were so afraid of plague doctors during times of plague.

wood tech project #5

In technology recently,we have been creating candle holders. The candle  holders have taken about 2-3 weeks (6 periods) to make in total, but they have been fun to create.  Part way through creating them, however,we decided to take a break, and we made can openers. The can openers took one period (an hour) to make. I did enjoy making them both, although i thought they were quite easy projects.

The equipment we used:

  • sand paper
  • wood (timber)
  • file
  • wood glue
  • hand drill
  • vice
  • ruler
  • pen/pencil
  • wood oil
  • plane

Why are creepypasta's so popular

Creepypasta, the internet version of camp fire stories that have scared, and inspired people for ages, but the real question is,why are they so popular?

First things first, what exactly are creepypasta's? Creepypasta's are internet versions of short, camp fire like stories that bring shivers down your spine, they have scared people for ages, and continue scaring today. Some of these creepypasta's are Jeff the killer, slenderman, homicidal liu, sally, clockwork,The scp foundation, ticci toby, the rake and much more. Creepypasta's are the present and future of horror stories, with movies even being made based off of some of them.
Now,what exactly makes a creepypasta popular? Let's take a creepypasta such as...The rake. The rake is the creepypasta about a strange, very light grey creature who kills a couples children deep in the night whilst in the family's home. The rake started off as a very impopular creepypasta, but soon exploded, with people copying and pasting the creepypasta around many different websites, soon fanart was made, making the rake even more popular. So, how does a creepypasta become popular, simple, through the fans copying and pasting it all over the internet. You can write your own creepypasta if you wanted, now, have a creepypasta.

I wonder...

I wonder what would happen if more than 60% of Europe was killed by the black death...

Firstly-what exactly was the black death? Well, the black death was a large epidemic that wiped out around 50-60% of Europe during the mid 1300's,as well as many in Asia. In total, around 75 million people were killed out of a worldwide population of about 450 million. It was spread by plague infected fleas, which lived on rats, which bit humans, who got infected by the plague. The plague struck Europe again in the 1600's,known as the great plague of London, but that plague was not as bad as the black death.

What were to happen if more than 60% of Europe was killed by this plague? Lets assume that around 80-90% of Humans in Europe were killed by the black death, here's what i believe would happen if this did occur:firstly, lets say that the plague lasted around 5-10 years longer than it did in real life, meaning it would end in around 1358-1563.It would be close to impossible for Europe to re-populate,as only around 7 million people would be living there, which is less than the population of new York, living in a place around the size of lets say the us,meaning villages, towns and cities would grow smaller, and forestry would increase. As the forestry increases, building would start to decay or become destroyed. Because there would be less people, less children would be born, causing Europe to take many centuries to re-populate. As less people lived in Europe and less were born there,it would be easier for enemy colonies to take over Europe,as there would be less people to fight for Europe. So,lets assume that about 3 different enemy colonies took over different parts of Europe,Arabs in the west,Turks and mongols to the east, this would cause the Europeans to go into hiding to stop the risk of being killed by these enemy colonies,or,instead of going into hiding, the Europeans would fit in with these people, creating peace. As more people were coming to Europe, this would cause the cities and towns to be rebuilt and grow in population once again, although this process would take centuries to complete. Because of this, america would not be colonized, and China would go into a state of isolation, not wanting to trade for a period of time. Europe would be largely populated, but it would be ethnically and culturally divided. Each different colony that has taken over Europe all share one thing,Judaism. Speaking of religion,if so little Europeans survived the plague, there would be close to no Christians,as nearly all of them lived in Europe at the time the Plague hit. A lot would happen to Europe if 80-90% of its population were killed by the black death, forestry would grow, places would be ruined, different colonies would re-colonize it,you know what i mean. Anyway, its quite interesting to think about what could happen to Europe if only 20-30% more of its citizens were killed by such a devastating plague, its also interesting to think about how rats and fleas were able to create such a large, devastating epidemic. I believe that if what i previous explained were to occur,Europe would be much different than what it was today,Europe, instead of being what it is today, would probably be a culturally divided society, with hardly any proper Europeans actually living there. I'm sure there are other theories out there, but this is my one. This is what i would think would happen if more than 60% of Europe were killed by the black death.
