persuasive writing essay

Wouldn't you agree that Marriage, the act of making your relationship legal, is such a beautiful time in someone's life. There are always stories going around about marriage being the happiest time in one's life. Finally being able to tie the bond between you and your partner legally in a happy marriage, but is it truly that way for everyone? The answer is no. There are many people around the world who have to suffer knowing that same sex marriage is illegal. Now here's the real question we should be asking: Should same sex marriage truly be illegal?

Imagine you are in a happily engaged to your partner, only for your marriage to be denied and made illegal. You have to spend your days wondering and questioning why in the world people refuse you're marriage. People in same sex relationships are currently suffering this way, especially in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Sudan, and many other countries around the world. We are all human, and those in same sex relationships being denied marriage by government is the same as those in heterosexual relationships being denied marriage. Being denied same sex marriage is highly homophobic and greatly offensive to the LGBT+ community. Being a member of the LGBT+ community myself, I find illegal same sex marriage rather...bizarre. Why are people controlling who we can and can't marry?

While some ache to disagree, Love is love, and our world is evolving. The common dilemma of ‘a man should always marry a woman’ ,especially within the Christianity community, is becoming more of an excuse than a reasoning for illegal same sex marriage. So it is time we accept it and allow people to marry who they please. While yes it can be noted that some countries reject same sex marriage for religious reasons, some people need to understand that even though some of us are in love with people of only the same gender, we are all living, breathing people who just want to find their place and be accepted.

Often times, we see stories of people celebrating their marriages, and putting it out there for everyone to see, but there's one thing in common. They are mostly heterosexual marriages. While yes, more and more people are being open about their sexuality, quite a few are still scared to come out as those just like them are being rejected and even abused for their sexuality. There are often protests and battles raged between those in the LGBT+ community and those who refuse to accept them, and to that I say grow up and learn to accept people for who they are. Marriage is supposed to be beautiful and accepted by everyone, so why should your sexuality matter as to whether you gain this happiness or not? Simple. It shouldn't. Yet people around the world are determined to make it seem like it is.

Speaking out and taking a stand is the only way be can be the change we want. Reality is--though some may disagree--same sex marriage should be a legal and celebrated act. It should not be something that people of high authority can control and have power over. Love is an uncontrollable force, so now is the time to take a stand and make marriage legal for all people of all sexualities. Let us all take a stand and give people in same sex relationships the rights they deserve!

  1. Fantastic argument, Joey!
I particularly enjoyed the powerful imperative statements at then end.
Your writing is organized and flows from one point to another. While an argument outline isn't always necessary in the introduction, I think it is worth including a brief overview of your points so that readers know where you are headed.
